Casey Consultants creates bespoke operator hose spooling workstation

Casey Consultants engineer a bespoke hose-spooling operator workstation. By leveraging Connect The Dots Innovation’s expertise in new product design, Casey Consultants was able to fabricate, test and deliver this completely new product in double-quick time.

Client Background

Casey Consultants was established in 2018 by Paul Casey, a Design Engineer with over 12 years’ experience in engineering design and development. Casey Consultants LTD currently provides engineering services including 3D CAD, product development and project management. The company also facilitates prototype building and testing.

Problem statement

The task of creating short spools of hose was proving to be a significant bottleneck in a client’s manufacturing workflow. The client determined that a dedicated operator workstation would offer significant timesaving when spooling out the exact length, cutting the hose, re-spooling and taping up the hose for despatch.

Solution

Working with the specification provided by the client, Connect The Dots Innovation generated a preliminary design for approval. Once the proposal was signed off, we worked with external suppliers (e.g. 3D printer, electric motor vendor) to source all the components required for the build and completed the design.

Results

At project handover stage, Casey Consultants were provided with the following, which allowed the
workstation to be fabricated at their facility.

  • A fully itemised, costed Bill of Materials.
  • Solidworks CAD models & drawings (.SLDASM, .SLDPRT, .SLDDRW)
  • Versions of all 2D manufacturing drawings in .PDF format.
  • Flat patterns for all sheet metal components in .DXF format.
  • Copies of any engineering calculations generated during the course of the project. (e.g. motor sizing calculations)
  • Rendered images of the workstation for use in product promotion, marketing (.JPG format)

“Connect The Dots Innovation provided us with exceptional quality CAD & mechanical engineering services on this project. Outsourcing the design aspect of projects like this bespoke workstation can be a risky undertaking. However we are always confident that Connect The Dots Innovation will deliver an optimised, well-thought-out solution every single time of asking.”
